The decision

Choosing your base in Cairo

The Nile splits Cairo in two: the old Giza plateau lies to the west and the modern city to the east. Your choice of side sets the tone of each morning. On a first stay of two or three nights there are four areas to weigh up, and each one trades the view, the position and the noise in its own way.

01

Giza & the plateau

First-time visitors who want to wake up to the pyramids

These rooms look out over the pyramids from the edge of the plateau, a twenty-five minute drive out of downtown. You come for the view. The surrounding area is quiet and spread out, so expect to travel by car for dinner and the museums.

02

Zamalek & Garden City

Travellers who like to be in the centre, beside the river

A green island in the Nile and the districts along its banks have the best-placed 5-star hotels, cafés you can walk to and a short journey to the Egyptian Museum. More guests choose this base than any other for a well-balanced stay in Cairo.

03

Downtown & Islamic Cairo

Return visitors and anyone watching the budget

Period hotels sit close to the bazaars, the mosques and the old museum at Tahrir. You get more atmosphere and better value, and in return more traffic and noise. That suits you if you would rather be in the middle of things.

04

Heliopolis & the airport

Early flights and one-night stopovers

Modern hotels sit ten minutes from Cairo airport. They are the sensible choice before a departure at dawn or for a single night between flights, but not if the city is what you came for.

Reading the star ratings

What the stars mean in Cairo

Star ratings in Egypt tend to be on the kind side, so this is what each level really gives you in Cairo.

3-star

Tidy, well managed and central, or a sound budget hotel with a pyramid view in Giza. You get an en-suite room, air-conditioning and a proper breakfast: the essentials done well, minus the finishing touches.

4-star

A comfortable level in the middle. Expect dependable international chains or strong local names, a pool, a few restaurants and, in a Giza hotel with a pyramid view, normally the better rooms.

5-star

You will find grand hotels on the Nile in Garden City and Zamalek, and the best-known pyramid-view resorts in Giza. They offer full service and views you will remember, and we can tell you which rooms deserve their price.

Swiss Inn Pyramids Golf Resort

Swiss Inn Pyramids Golf Resort

Swiss Inn Pyramids Golf Resort is a hotel in Giza with an on-site golf facility and direct road access toward the Giza Plateau. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we use this property for one-night or short stays when clients prioritise Pyramid access over Downtown Cairo location. Unlike central Cairo hotels, it reduces morning transfer time to the Giza Plateau and Khufu Pyramid. Trade-offs: fewer late-night dining options nearby and limited rooms with direct Pyramid views; ask us to reserve a Pyramid-facing room where available. We arrange private transfers and flexible early departures to match scheduled site times.

From £531 Days
Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir, Cairo

Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir, Cairo

Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir sits on Mohamed Mahmoud Street beside Tahrir Square, opposite the Egyptian Museum. We arrange stays here for guests prioritising central museums and government offices; unlike hotels on the Giza Plateau, this is an urban base rather than a Pyramid-front location. The hotel offers rooms, an onsite restaurant and a rooftop terrace; we can book private transfers and flexible check-in through Discovery Tours Egypt, a licensed Egyptian tour operator. City-centre traffic can add 30–60 minutes to Cairo International Airport transfers at peak times, and street-facing rooms can be noisy.

From £106
Steigenberger Cairo Pyramids Hotel (Bed & Breakfast)

Steigenberger Cairo Pyramids Hotel (Bed & Breakfast)

Steigenberger Cairo Pyramids Hotel is a bed-and-breakfast hotel in Giza, about 3.5 km (12-minute drive) from the Giza Plateau. We use this hotel for short Giza transfers and early starts to Khufu; unlike inner‑Cairo hotels, it typically reduces morning drive time to the plateau. Breakfast is included and we arrange airport transfers and pyramid-site excursions through our team. Selected rooms have views of the Giza Plateau; those rooms must be requested at booking as availability is limited. Peak-traffic transfers can add 20–40 minutes. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and will confirm room category and transfer times when you book.

From £86
Sonesta Hotel Tower & Casino – Cairo

Sonesta Hotel Tower & Casino – Cairo

Sonesta Hotel Tower & Casino sits in Heliopolis, a short drive from Cairo International Airport. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange airport transfers, early check-in and quiet-room requests for arriving or departing guests. The property offers standard rooms and suites, a swimming pool, a casino and 24‑hour dining; meeting rooms are available for small groups. We prefer Sonesta for pre- or post‑flight stays because it combines airport convenience with full hotel facilities; unlike terminal hotels, it has leisure spaces and meeting capacity. Trade-offs: some rooms face the casino and street; request a higher-floor room if you need quieter nights.

From £58
Sofitel El Gezirah, Cairo (Gezira Island)

Sofitel El Gezirah, Cairo (Gezira Island)

Sofitel El Gezirah sits on Gezira Island in Zamalek, Cairo, with direct Nile frontage and views across to the Cairo Opera House. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private transfers and Nile-view rooms when available. The hotel houses multiple restaurants, a rooftop terrace and a spa, and offers a quieter island base compared with hotels on the Giza Plateau. Expect peak-hour transfers to Giza to take 45–60 minutes; some rooms face the inner courtyard and do not have Nile views. We do not operate large coach transfers from the property, so arrivals and departures are handled with private cars and timed meet-and-greets.

From £144
Safir Hotel Cairo, Cairo

Safir Hotel Cairo, Cairo

Safir Hotel Cairo is a centrally located hotel in Cairo, suitable for short stays and transit nights. We book Safir primarily for guests who need straightforward rooms and reliable group logistics; we do not promote it as a boutique or luxury option. Unlike hotels in Zamalek, Safir often provides easier coach parking and simpler group check-in processes. Trade-offs include fewer on-site leisure facilities than higher-tier Cairo hotels and some dated room decor; service can be slower at peak times. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator we arrange the reservation, private transfers and early check-in on request.

From £67
Radisson Blu Cairo Heliopolis

Radisson Blu Cairo Heliopolis

Radisson Blu in Cairo provides international-standard rooms and practical services; we book it often for arrival and departure nights. We prefer Radisson Blu when clients need predictable logistics: unlike small boutique hotels, its straightforward reception and transport options reduce risk on late or early flights. We arrange airport transfers, early check-in requests where possible, and private cars for onward Cairo sightseeing. Trade-offs: this is a business-style hotel rather than a heritage property, and you should expect standard city traffic noise rather than a quiet garden setting. Discovery Tours Egypt is a licensed Egyptian tour operator and manages local arrangements and billing.

From £48
Novotel 6 October, 6th of October City (Cairo)

Novotel 6 October, 6th of October City (Cairo)

Novotel 6 October is a full-service hotel in 6th of October City, west of central Cairo. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private airport transfers, timed departures and guided excursions from this base. We often recommend it for clients with business in Smart Village; we do not usually advise it for short, first-time sightseeing stays in central Cairo because journeys to the Egyptian Museum or Khan al-Khalili commonly exceed 40 minutes in peak traffic. Expect 35–60 minutes by private car to the Giza Plateau (Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure) depending on traffic. On-site parking and quieter suburban streets are practical advantages.

From £44
Nile Ritz-Carlton Cairo

Nile Ritz-Carlton Cairo

Egypt Discovery books rooms at the Nile Ritz-Carlton Cairo, a five-star hotel at 1113 Corniche El Nil, looking out over the river. It is a full-service hotel for people travelling on business or for pleasure who want a central base beside the Nile. We can add transfers, a private Egyptologist and sightseeing to your stay. A bigger hotel than the small boutique places in the middle of the city, it has more facilities and services on site, and meeting space for guests who need it.

From £115
Marriott Mena House Cairo

Marriott Mena House Cairo

Marriott Mena House Cairo stands on Pyramids' Road, right beside the Giza Plateau, with the Great Pyramid of Khufu in view from some rooms. The hotel occupies a historic site and has the feel of a classic property with big grounds, a drive away from the middle of Cairo. Egypt Discovery can book one night or several, add breakfast on request and ask for a pyramid-facing room, subject to availability. It suits holidaymakers who want the pyramids on the doorstep rather than a long transfer, and it is a very different base from a hotel in the city centre.

From £220
Jewel Sport City

Jewel Sport City

One-night hotel stay at Jewel Sport City in Cairo arranged by our licensed Egyptian tour operator. We position this property as a practical overnight for airport connections and early departures rather than a central sightseeing base. Unlike central Cairo hotels, it suits short stops and early flights. We arrange private transfers and meet-and-greet on request. Rooms are straightforward and functional; do expect practical amenities rather than boutique design or extensive leisure facilities. Our drivers can collect or drop you at agreed times, and B&B or room-only options are available depending on your preference.

From £481 Days
Jewel Plaza

Jewel Plaza

Jewel Plaza is a Cairo hotel we book for short overnight stays and transit nights. We use it when clients require a straightforward, practical room for an arrival, departure or a single-night layover. We favour short-stay hotels such as Jewel Plaza for overnight layovers instead of placing clients in larger Cairo hotels for just one night. Unlike larger full-service hotels, Jewel Plaza is chosen for practicality rather than extensive leisure facilities. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange reservations, meet-and-greet transfers and early check-in requests where available. Not recommended for stays longer than two or three nights; guests seeking extensive on-site facilities should consider other neighbourhood hotels.

From £481 Days
Hilton Cairo Grand Nile hotel stay

Hilton Cairo Grand Nile hotel stay

Hilton Cairo Grand Nile is a five-star hotel stay in Cairo, with standard check-in from 15:00 and check-out by 12:00. The hotel’s name refers to the Nile. Breakfast depends on the selected room rate, so we'll confirm the booking basis before you confirm. This is accommodation, not a guided sightseeing stay: visits to Cairo’s museums, historic districts and the Giza Plateau are separate arrangements. We can arrange those separately through a licensed Egyptian tour operator.

From £120
Helnan Dream Hotel, Cairo

Helnan Dream Hotel, Cairo

Helnan Dream Hotel is a centrally sited Cairo hotel commonly used as a city base for visits to the Egyptian Museum and the Giza Plateau. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we arrange private airport transfers, Cairo Egyptologists and timed museum entries to match your flight times. We don't run coach-group hotel pickups; we provide private arrivals and locally guided visits to avoid morning queues. Unlike Nile cruise hotels, a city stay keeps you close to evening restaurants and the museum timetable. Expect Cairo traffic at peak times; airport transfers can take 45–75 minutes in rush-hour.

From £77
Crowne Plaza West Cairo - Arkan, Sheikh Zayed

Crowne Plaza West Cairo - Arkan, Sheikh Zayed

A five-star city hotel in Arkan Plaza, Sheikh Zayed, offering rooms and suites for short stays in west Cairo. Check-in is at 15:00 and check-out at 12:00. We use Crowne Plaza West Cairo for clients who need modern, internationally branded accommodation in Sheikh Zayed rather than central Cairo. The hotel suits business travellers and families requiring easy access to western Cairo neighbourhoods and local shopping centres. Unlike hotels around Tahrir and Zamalek, this property places you in a planned suburban district with different daytime traffic patterns and local amenities.

From £1061 Days
Cosmopolitan Hotel Cairo, Cairo

Cosmopolitan Hotel Cairo, Cairo

One night at the Cosmopolitan Hotel Cairo is offered as a short stopover option in our Cairo programmes. We arrange private airport or railway transfers and flexible check‑in to match international flight schedules. We use this hotel primarily for practical overnight stays rather than extended Cairo holidays. Unlike airport hotels, this option places you inside the city for quicker access to central Cairo landmarks such as the Egyptian Museum or Coptic Cairo in the evening. Rooms and on-site facilities are configured for short stays; do not expect resort-style leisure amenities. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we can add an early-morning pickup or a pre-departure briefing on request.

From £291 Days
Boudle Grand Pyramids Hotel, Giza

Boudle Grand Pyramids Hotel, Giza

Boudle Grand Pyramids Hotel is a Giza hotel we book for guests visiting the Giza Plateau. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator. We do not place clients on coach-group itineraries; instead we arrange private transfers and time visits with our Egyptologists to avoid peak crowds. Some rooms have direct views of the Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure pyramids; others face the street, so request a pyramid-view room at booking. The hotel is convenient for short stays beside the plateau, but allow extra time for central Cairo sites because of local traffic.

From £34
Barceló Cairo Pyramids Hotel, Giza

Barceló Cairo Pyramids Hotel, Giza

Barceló Cairo Pyramids Hotel sits on the Giza edge, with rooftop terraces that face Khufu and Khafre. We use this hotel when clients want a clear pyramid view without staying on the plateau itself. The hotel provides a rooftop pool, an on-site restaurant and rooms with direct pyramid views when available. It is approximately a 10–15 minute private-car transfer to the Giza Plateau; traffic can lengthen journeys to central Cairo and the Egyptian Museum (typically 30–45 minutes). Expect some road noise on the main approach road, and book pyramid-view rooms early–they are limited.

From £46
AZAL Pyramids Hotel, Giza

AZAL Pyramids Hotel, Giza

AZAL Pyramids Hotel is a Giza property we arrange for travellers visiting the Giza Plateau. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and our Cairo team handles on-the-ground logistics. We prefer to schedule Pyramid visits early in the morning from Giza hotels to avoid afternoon traffic; we do not run large coach groups from here. Rooms are straightforward and some offer rooftop sightlines toward Khufu and the Sphinx; rooftop exposure and street noise vary. Unlike downtown Cairo hotels, a Giza base shortens transfers to the Giza Plateau. We can add private transfers and guided visits on request.

From £34
Pyramisa Cairo Hotel, Cairo

Pyramisa Cairo Hotel, Cairo

Pyramisa Cairo Hotel is a practical city hotel we can book as a base for Cairo stays. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we manage room bookings, private airport transfers and Egyptologist pickups for timed visits to the Egyptian Museum. Our distinctive point of view: we use Pyramisa for short stays and city logistics rather than leisure-focused holidays. Compared with larger Nile-side or resort hotels, expect simpler leisure facilities and a more straightforward room offering. Honest trade-offs: it is chosen for convenience and value, not for extensive spa facilities or panoramic Nile views.

From £48
St. Regis Cairo

St. Regis Cairo

A five-star hotel on the Corniche El Nil in Downtown Cairo, looking over the river. Egypt Discovery books your room on request, including a single night if that is all you need, and sends written confirmation. Rooms look out over either the Nile or the city, and the business and cultural districts of the centre are close by. You are dealing with a licensed Egyptian tour operator throughout. Next to older hotels in the centre, this is a riverside address suited to short stays and working trips.

Before you book

The practical side of a Cairo stay

Some useful points to consider when choosing a hotel in Cairo.

01

How many nights

Spend two nights and you will see the pyramids, the museums and a little of the old city. A third lets you fit in Saqqara or Islamic Cairo at an easier pace. Many holidays begin in Cairo and then fly on to Luxor in the south.

02

Getting in from the airport

When the roads are normal, the journey from the airport to Giza or the Nile takes 45 minutes to an hour. After the flight from the UK, a private transfer that tracks your flight is the simplest way to reach the hotel.

03

Traffic shapes the day

Cairo's traffic is a fact of life. Choosing a hotel close to your morning destination, whether the plateau or the Nile, will save you an hour each way far more reliably than a better room.

04

Pyramid view, honestly

A night or two in a Giza hotel with a pyramid view is a treat in its own right. Some of those rooms are older than the newer city hotels, so ask us which individual hotel justifies the higher price.

Common questions

Cairo hotels, answered

01Which part of Cairo is best to stay in?+

On a first visit, pick Giza if the pyramids matter most to you, as you can see them from bed. Zamalek and Garden City put you in the middle of the city by the Nile, with the finest 5-star hotels and easy access to the Egyptian Museum. Downtown is for return and budget-minded visitors, and Heliopolis for early flights. We choose the area to suit the kind of mornings you want.

02Is a pyramid-view hotel in Giza worth paying for?+

For one or two nights most guests say yes, since seeing the pyramids over breakfast is part of the reason you travelled. The rooms can be older than those in newer hotels elsewhere in the city, and the area is quiet and spread out. We will say which Giza hotels justify the higher price and which are only selling the view.

03How long should I stay in Cairo?+

Two nights is enough for the pyramids and museums, and three if you would like to add Saqqara or Islamic Cairo without hurrying. The majority of Egypt holidays start in Cairo and then fly on to Luxor for the Nile.

04What is the best Cairo hotel for a flight at dawn?+

Heliopolis is the place for a single night in transit or a very early departure, as the airport is ten to fifteen minutes away. Otherwise, base yourself by the pyramids or on the Nile and leave the airport run to a transfer that tracks your flight.

05Should I stay by the pyramids or in the city centre?+

It comes down to how you want your mornings to feel. Giza is right if the pyramids are your priority and you want them from your window. Choose Zamalek or Garden City for a central position by the river, near the museum and the restaurants. In Cairo's traffic, being near where you will spend the day matters more than any single upgrade.

06Is breakfast included at your Cairo hotels, and what about airport pickup?+

Nearly every Cairo hotel we book includes breakfast, and your quote confirms it. Airport pickup can be added separately: a private driver meets you at Cairo airport, follows your flight and takes you to your hotel door.
