The decision

Choosing your base in Hurghada

Rather than one town, Hurghada is a string of resorts spread along a sunny stretch of coast, so what you are really choosing is which part of it to call home. You get reef and reliable sunshine everywhere. What changes from place to place is the atmosphere: peaceful and polished in the south, lively and on foot in town, relaxed and stylish at El Gouna.

01

El Gouna

Stylish hotels and watersports

Twenty minutes up the coast, a low-rise lagoon town of marinas, tidy streets and kitesurfing water. You can walk around it, it costs a little more, and it is the neatest, most self-contained place to base yourself.

02

Sahl Hasheesh & the southern bays

Couples wanting calm luxury

5-star resorts set in landscaped grounds on bays south of town, each with a house reef a few steps from the sand. This is the quieter, smarter side of Hurghada, well away from the crowds.

03

Hurghada town & the Marina

First-timers and value

You will find the biggest choice of 3- and 4-star hotels here, plus dive centres and nightlife, and the airport is ten minutes away. It is busy and central, and it suits a tighter budget.

04

Makadi Bay

Families

Big all-inclusive resorts around a sheltered bay south of the airport, where children can paddle over shallow reef. Most people here stay put and enjoy a beach holiday without needing to go anywhere else.

Reading the star ratings

What the stars mean in Hurghada

Along the Red Sea, stars tend to follow the style of resort and the meal plan, so this is what to expect at each level in Hurghada.

3-star

A friendly, no-frills hotel in town or close to the marina, normally bed-and-breakfast, with the beach and the dive boats a short stroll or shuttle ride off. You get the sun and the sea without paying resort prices.

4-star

The workhorse all-inclusive, with a pool or three, a choice of restaurants, a house reef and a dive centre. A reliable pick for families and couples anywhere along the coast.

5-star

The smart resorts of Sahl Hasheesh and El Gouna, with landscaped gardens, better food, peaceful beaches and rooms that vary a lot, so ask us which ones are nearest the reef.

The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh, Red Sea

The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh, Red Sea

The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh is a five-star hotel at Oberoi 117, Sahl Hasheesh, on the Red Sea coast of the Hurghada area. Sahl Hasheesh is a resort district to the south of Hurghada, so staying here is a very different choice from a hotel in the city itself. The name ties it to The Oberoi hotel group. Room categories, meal plans, facilities and services change from one booking to the next, so we check them for your dates before you reserve. We can fold the hotel into a wider trip around Egypt.

From £140
Swiss Inn Resort Hurghada

Swiss Inn Resort Hurghada

Swiss Inn Resort Hurghada sits on the Red Sea coast with private beach access and an on-site dive desk. We use this hotel when clients want straightforward sea access and easy diving or snorkelling logistics rather than an all-inclusive resort bubble. Unlike many large Hurghada complexes, this property makes independent day trips simple: Giftun Island snorkelling and Luxor overnights are bookable without resort transfer rules. Expect busy beaches during peak season and limited shade at midday; bring sun protection and early-morning plans. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange airport meet-and-greet, dive bookings and tailored excursions from Hurghada.

From £67
Steigenberger Aldau Beach Hotel

Steigenberger Aldau Beach Hotel

Steigenberger Aldau Beach Hotel is a five-star hotel on Yusif Affifi Road in Hurghada, on the Red Sea coast of Egypt. The hotel is made up of suites, from junior and deluxe suites to a family suite, so it is worth deciding how much space you need before you choose. The room, the meal plan and anything extra depend on the booking you pick. A hotel stay is a place to sleep and relax; it does not come with sightseeing or transport around town. We check the room and booking details for your dates before you reserve.

From £121
Rixos Premium Magawish Suites & Villas on the Red Sea, Hurghada

Rixos Premium Magawish Suites & Villas on the Red Sea, Hurghada

This is a five-star hotel at Km 12 on Safaga Road, on the Red Sea coast near Hurghada. The name tells you that guests can choose between suites and villas, so the room you book shapes the stay more than the hotel does. Facilities listed for the property include a pool, spa, gym, restaurant, bar and beach access. The road runs between Hurghada and Safaga, which puts the hotel outside the town itself. Egypt Discovery books the hotel on request, and we check the room type, board basis and services against your dates before anything is confirmed.

From £239
Pickalbatros White Beach Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros White Beach Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros White Beach Resort is a Hurghada hotel on the Red Sea, bookable through our licensed Egyptian tour operator. We sell this property as a straightforward beach option rather than a bundled Nile-and-beach package; many clients prefer to add a separate Nile stay so each part of Egypt gets proper time. We include private airport transfers and can add diving or snorkelling excursions on request. Expect busy periods in July–August and limited shade on the shoreline at midday; we recommend early-morning snorkel trips and an early check-in when possible. Rates, room types and transfer times are confirmed at booking.

From £154
Pickalbatros Dana Beach Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Dana Beach Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Dana Beach Resort sits on Hurghada's Red Sea coast and provides multiple outdoor pools, restaurants and family facilities. We position it as a reliable all-inclusive resort base rather than a remote boutique hideaway; its scale suits families and mid-range holidaymakers. Unlike small guesthouses on Giftun Island, most on-site activities here run throughout the day, not to a boat timetable. It can be busy in Egyptian school holidays and some room categories show wear; choose upgraded rooms for quieter locations. We can arrange private airport transfers, snorkel excursions and dive bookings with vetted local operators. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and handle confirmations and special requests.

From £132
Mercure Hurghada (All Inclusive)

Mercure Hurghada (All Inclusive)

Mercure Hurghada is an all-inclusive hotel on Hurghada's Red Sea coast offering meals, selected drinks and on-site leisure facilities. Meals and selected drinks are included in the published all-inclusive rate. We recommend Mercure Hurghada when clients want straightforward beach time rather than a touring base; we do not position it as a starting point for multi-day archaeological travel. We arrange private transfers from Hurghada International Airport and snorkelling excursions on the Red Sea. Note: all-inclusive pricing reduces local dining choices, and evenings at the hotel can be lively – request a room away from the entertainment area if you prefer quiet.

Giftun Azur Resort, a three-star stay on Village Road, Hurghada

Listed facilities include a pool, spa, garden, rooftop terrace, restaurant, bar and beach access, and the hotel is listed as pet-friendly. From £48
Baron Palace Sahl Hasheesh, Red Sea

Baron Palace Sahl Hasheesh, Red Sea

Baron Palace is a five-star hotel in the Sahl Hasheesh resort area, a little way south of Hurghada on the Red Sea. The address is Baron Building, Sahl Hasheesh, so you are staying in a seaside resort district and not in the town itself. Egypt Discovery books the room on request through local suppliers. The room type, the meal basis and what comes with the rate all depend on the offer you choose, so we check these with you first, especially if a particular meal plan or facility matters. The hotel is listed as a one-day product, which is only a booking unit: you choose your own dates and number of nights.

From £119
Siva Grand Beach, a four-star stay on the Corniche in Hurghada

Siva Grand Beach, a four-star stay on the Corniche in Hurghada

Siva Grand Beach is a four-star hotel on the Corniche, the seafront road in Hurghada on Egypt's Red Sea coast. Listed facilities include a pool, spa, garden, rooftop terrace, restaurant, bar and beach access. This is a hotel booking, not a guided tour, so your days are your own to plan. Board basis and amenities differ between rates. Egypt Discovery books the hotel on request and checks the details for your dates before you pay.

From £63
Sunny Days Mirette Family Resort in Hurghada

Sunny Days Mirette Family Resort in Hurghada

Sunny Days Mirette Family Resort is a three-star hotel on Courniche Road, in the Red Sea city of Hurghada. The name tells you it is aimed at families, and the room list leans that way too, with villas and apartments that have separate bedrooms and a living room. What each rate actually covers (meals, extras, who it is open to) changes with the room and the dates, so we check it with the hotel before you commit. Nothing we have says how far the sea is from the front door, so we do not promise a beach view or a short stroll to the water. Ask us and we will find out.

From £35
Steigenberger Pure Lifestyle, an adults-only hotel in Hurghada

Steigenberger Pure Lifestyle, an adults-only hotel in Hurghada

Steigenberger Pure Lifestyle is a five-star hotel for adults only, set on Yousef Afifi Road in the Al Mamsha El Seyahi part of Hurghada. Because no children stay, it feels quite different from the family resorts along the same stretch of Red Sea coast. Egypt Discovery books rooms here on request, and what you get depends on the room and board basis you choose. Before you commit, ask us to confirm exactly what is covered for your dates.

From £186
Long Beach Resort Hurghada, a five-star stay on Sahl Hashish Road

Long Beach Resort Hurghada, a five-star stay on Sahl Hashish Road

Long Beach Resort Hurghada is a five-star hotel on Sahl Hashish Road, south of Hurghada town. It suits people who prefer a resort to the bustle of the town, with the beach and the hotel's own facilities on hand. Egypt Discovery books your room and can arrange local services on request. Compared with a hotel in the middle of town, it makes a quieter base for Red Sea activities and time by the sea.

From £53
Pickalbatros Aqua Vista Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Aqua Vista Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Aqua Vista Resort is located in Hurghada on the Red Sea and provides resort accommodation with pools and family rooms. We recommend this hotel as a practical base for families and snorkellers rather than for experienced liveaboard divers seeking remote reefs. Unlike small boutique hotels in Old Hurghada, the resort offers larger communal facilities and organised daytime activities. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator we arrange airport transfers, snorkel trips and family-room allocation on request. Expect busy periods during Egyptian school holidays; pool areas may be crowded and some poolside areas have limited shade at midday.

From £103
Seagull Beach Resort Hurghada

Seagull Beach Resort Hurghada

Seagull Beach Resort Hurghada is a three-star hotel on Sheraton Road in Hurghada, in Egypt's Red Sea Governorate. It offers plain, seaside rooms by the night, close to the beaches and the town's dive centres. Egypt Discovery books the room and can add airport transfers and Egyptologist services if you want them, and our local team visits partner hotels in Hurghada regularly. If a big full-board resort is more than you need, this makes a simple base for snorkelling and day trips.

On request
Beach Albatros Resort, Hurghada

Beach Albatros Resort, Hurghada

Beach Albatros Resort sits on the Red Sea coast in Hurghada and offers beach and pool facilities. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and do not run group bus tours; all transfers are private and our Hurghada team offers 24/7 on-ground support. Unlike cruise-based excursions, a land stay lets you snorkel independently on the house reef or join an optional private day trip to Giftun Island. Expect busy high season; buffet restaurants can queue at peak times and there is limited shade at midday on parts of the beach. We can add private snorkelling guides, scuba lessons and transfers to Hurghada Airport.

From £123
Pickalbatros Palace Resort Hurghada – Red Sea Beach Resort

Pickalbatros Palace Resort Hurghada – Red Sea Beach Resort

Pickalbatros Palace Resort sits on Hurghada's Red Sea coastline. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we arrange transfers from Hurghada International Airport (HRG), plus private snorkel and dive charters from the marina. Unlike many shuttle-based all-inclusive packages, we favour private charters so you reach reefs early and avoid crowded boat decks. Expect stronger northerly winds and busy beaches in July–August; reef moorings and snorkel sites are busiest then. For quieter sea conditions, consider April–June or September–November. We can also combine a Hurghada stay with inland excursions or a Nile extension on request.

From £123
The Grand Resort Hurghada, Corniche Road

The Grand Resort Hurghada, Corniche Road

The Grand Resort Hurghada is a five-star hotel on Corniche Road in Hurghada, a city on Egypt's Red Sea coast. This is a hotel stay and not a sightseeing tour, so excursions and local transport are arranged separately. Listed amenities include a pool, gym, spa, restaurant, bar, garden, rooftop terrace and beach access. Room types, board basis and beach access are confirmed with us for your dates before you book. We arrange it as a licensed Egyptian tour operator.

Pickalbatros Aqua Park Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Aqua Park Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Aqua Park Resort Hurghada is a beachfront hotel with an on-site waterpark, multiple pools and family rooms. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private transfers and optional day trips for snorkelling or diving from Hurghada Marina. Unlike Hurghada hotels without waterparks, guests can spend several hours onsite without leaving the resort; we typically pair stays with a private boat to Giftun Island rather than a crowded group cruise. The resort is busiest during Egyptian and European school holidays, when pool queues and noise increase. We can add quieter room allocations and early beach times where available.

From £103
Marriott Hurghada Beach Resort, on the Red Sea coast

Marriott Hurghada Beach Resort, on the Red Sea coast

The five-star Marriott Hurghada Beach Resort stands on El Corniche Road, Hurghada, beside the Red Sea. It works well for a beach holiday with diving and snorkelling trips close to hand. Egypt Discovery books your room with the hotel and passes on any special requests, and we can add transfers or activities around it. This is a hotel stay, not a coach tour, and we can fit it into a tailor-made or private itinerary. Room types and rates change with the season and the length of your stay.

Pickalbatos Citadel Resort – Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Citadel Resort in Sahl Hasheesh is a beachfront hotel on the Red Sea's Hurghada coast. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator we handle room bookings, private airport transfers and guided snorkelling excursions; we do not operate coach-group packages. Unlike Hurghada city-centre hotels, Sahl Hasheesh has a planned promenade and generally quieter evenings. The resort is best for sea-focused holidays and families; expect limited nightlife and occasional seasonal closures of some facilities. Tell us your arrival time and we will arrange transfers and reef trips matched to your schedule.

From £132
Pickalbatros Aqua Blu Resort Hurghada

Pickalbatros Aqua Blu Resort Hurghada

Pickalbatros Aqua Blu Resort Hurghada sits on the Red Sea coast in Hurghada. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange bookings, private transfers and room options at this property. We do not allocate guests into large coach-group blocks at our partner hotels; instead we book rooms and arrival logistics individually. Unlike mass-market charter packages, we can tailor arrival times and add private transfers or local support on request. Trade-offs: the resort can be busy in Egyptian school holidays and some room locations require a short walk between reception and the shoreline.

Before you book

The practical side of a Hurghada stay

Some useful points to bear in mind when choosing your Hurghada hotel.

01

How many nights

Three to seven nights is usual, normally all-inclusive, often tacked on after the temples or the Nile. That gives you time for the reef, a day out to an island and an evening in the desert, with plenty of beach time in between.

02

Arriving at the airport

Hurghada airport is ten minutes from town and twenty to forty from the southern bays and El Gouna, and there are direct charter flights from the UK. Booking a private transfer is the easy option, though most resorts have their own too.

03

Most rates are all-inclusive

Resorts along the Red Sea mostly sell all-inclusive rates, and here it generally makes sense, since the hotel is where you spend your holiday. Before you book, we check exactly what the board covers.

04

Luxor is possible, if tiring

Reaching Luxor takes about four hours each way. It is worth doing once to see the Valley of the Kings, but expect an early start and a long day, so choose a hotel you will be glad to fall into afterwards.

Common questions

Hurghada hotels, answered

01Which part of Hurghada is best for a hotel?+

If you want peace and polish, try the southern bays at Sahl Hasheesh. El Gouna is best for a stylish base you can walk around. Hurghada town and the marina suit anyone after value, nightlife and the airport nearby, while families do well at the sheltered all-inclusives of Makadi Bay. There is reef all the way along, so it really depends on the atmosphere you are after.

02How long should I stay in Hurghada?+

Most people have between three and seven nights, often as a beach ending to a trip that began in Cairo and on the Nile. That is long enough to snorkel the reef, spend a day on the islands, go out into the desert one evening and still lie on the sand. A Luxor day trip fits in too if you want one big day of sightseeing.

03Is it possible to see Luxor from a Hurghada hotel?+

It is, with a guide, though the drive takes about four hours each way. You will see the Valley of the Kings and Karnak. We organise the trip with pickup from your hotel. Expect to leave early and get back late, and keep the days on either side free for the beach.

04Is Hurghada a good choice for a family holiday?+

Yes. The sheltered all-inclusive resorts at Makadi Bay and along the southern bays are made for families, with shallow reef water, pools and children's clubs. We will steer you towards the quietest beaches and the food and rooms that work for your family.

05Are meals and airport pickup part of your Hurghada hotel deals?+

Most come as all-inclusive or half board, and your quote spells out exactly what is covered. A private transfer from Hurghada airport to your resort is easy to add, although many hotels also run a shuttle of their own.
